Recap 2016 – Onward to 2017

Kids playing video games

2016 was an amazing year for game accessibility and the AbleGamers charity. We saw new heights to the awareness levels for gamers with disabilities and more recognition than ever before.

We started the Expansion Pack program to give rehabilitation centers, long-term living facilities, and care homes entire setups with cutting-edge assistive technology, the latest games, and the hardware needed to run them. Thanks to your generous support, we were able to help thousands of people through the first year of Expansion Packs.

Our individual grants also took a big step forward, giving out more customized and specialized controllers than ever before. We were able to help people like Zane, Steven, and Joel continue gaming and having fun–a highly underrated virtue in these tumultuous times.

We were honored to be invited to CSUN, PAX, SXSW, RTX, IndieCade, XPO, and so many other opportunities to speak about the importance of games. Speaking on the stage at the PlayStation Expo, talking to Xbox and Microsoft, as well as all of our other developer friends.  And to top it all off, having our founder Mark Barlet and COO Steven Spohn invited to the White House was the icing on the cake. It was an amazing year and every bit of it was thanks to you.

Every bit of good we do in this world is directly because of your support. We wouldn’t be able to do any of the amazing things we are privileged to do and places we get to go to help gamers with disabilities all around the world.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support. We look forward to an amazing 2017, together. Tackling the challenges of social isolation, barriers to accessibility, and difficulties of living with disabilities, together. This will be an amazing year and we hope you’ll be with us every step of the way.
